When people go to work each day, they do not expect to trip and fall and sustain an injury. However, this situation can easily happen at work, so it is important for people to take precautions to make sure their work environment is safe.

Many people might think that slipping or tripping at work is not a big deal. EHSToday.com says that falls, slips and trips can be dangerous. These incidents resulted in the deaths of 849 people in 2016. Falls in particular can be hazardous for employees. In 2014, 798 people died after falling at work and 261,930 workers required time away from work because of an injury incurred from a fall. Most of these incidents happen because of preventable situations. Because of this, it is important for people to understand what they can do to prevent falls, slips and trips at work.

Many people might think they are at risk of falling only if they work in industries involving scaffolding. According to Safety and Health magazine, people can fall in any work environment. People may fall if their walking surface is unstable or if they use a ladder incorrectly. It is important for people to make sure they always put ladders in the correct position. Additionally, people sometimes fall after slipping. It is a good idea for people to be aware of their environment so they see potential tripping or slipping hazards.

One of the ways people can prevent slips and trips is to make sure they have appropriate walking surfaces. It is a good idea to replace torn mats and worn flooring. Additionally, people may want to put abrasive mats near entrances so no one slips on rainy days. Sometimes people might trip when they walk in dim hallways, so it is a good idea to replace lightbulbs after they burn out. Additionally, people should remove clutter from walkways.
