Does speeding increase the risk of an accident?

On Behalf of | Sep 27, 2019 | Firm News |

Speeding is against the law in New York no matter why you do it or how far over the speed limit you go. However, because so many drivers feel speeding is okay, it is impossible for law enforcement to stop everyone from doing it. If you speed, it is a smart idea to look into how bad it really is. Forbes explains that speeding has shown in studies to be a main factor in car accidents.

A new study superficially shows a direct link between accidents and speed. In fact, it shows that speeding is one of the most dangerous things you can do behind the wheel. It also shows that there is a link between speeding and other bad driving behaviors. What this means is essentially, if you speed, you probably do other things you should not behind the wheel.

Speeding is a part of aggressive driving. When you speed, you put yourself and others at risk because you increase your stopping times and reduce the control you have over your vehicle. No matter how well you think you are handling things, if you speed, you are still at risk.

It has long been said that going over the speed limit is a risky behavior. Now, with studies coming out that show proof to this claim, it is easier to create campaigns and awareness about how dangerous it really is. The hope is that drivers will take note and realize that going even a little bit over the speed limit is never okay. This information is for education and is not legal advice.
